BEAUTIFUL LADY

by Richard E. Berg-Andersson (1977)

Beautiful Lady has a rather strange history: it actually started out as just a simple theme late in the Winter of 1976/7 (2d semester of my junior year at Boston University) to which I came up with chord changes as the semester progressed... however, things did NOT work out with the "beautiful lady" who had originally inspired the nascent piece (who she was and/or how I knew her was and is immaterial!)- so I basically trashed the original theme and had pretty much reconfigured its changes in the course of the Spring into the ensuing Summer ... by the following Fall (that of 1977: as I began the 1st semester of my senior year at B.U.), I had a new "beautiful lady" in my life who happens to now be my wife Margo: I pulled out the reconfigured changes along with some new material I had been working on over the Summer (eventually throwing most of it into the developing work as a twin set of bridge sections) and came up with what was- for the most part- a completely different theme (albeit largely, however loosely, based on the original one); by the middle of that Fall 1977 semester, Beautiful Lady was completed... though, to be totally accurate, it SHOULD have been titled "Beautiful LadIES"!
