M.D.B.

by Richard E. Berg-Andersson (1977)

M.D.B. was, in a sense, a "follow-up" to the earlier Beautiful Lady and the two works are actually rather closely related... I had felt rather badly that the inspiration behind Beautiful Lady had not been 100 percent my then-brand new girlfriend (and future bride) Margo, so I took the chord changes to some newer material I had originally composed as additions to Beautiful Lady (material which was supposed to have filled out what became the twin bridges of the earlier work but which I ultimately had to leave out in order to keep Beautiful Lady to a reasonable length) and then made these changes the basis of a whole new piece with a completely new theme... Adding a brand new section as a bridge as I went along in order to fill out the composition, M.D.B. (these being Margo's initials) quickly took shape and, in fact, was completed no more than a week after I had completed Beautiful Lady in the mid-Fall of 1977 while I was still in the 1st Semester of my senior year at Boston University.
